MONTEVALLO CITY COUNCIL, MONTEVALLO PLANNING & ZONINGIn conjunction with Mrs. Woodham, we have recalculated and reevaluated the available
capacity of the existing Montevallo Wastewater Treatment Plant. This is an annual
follow up to the evaluation which was prepared in August, 2005. Upon a more in-depth
review of the data, it appears that InSite used lower flowrates for new construction than
the actual historical data at the wastewater treatment plant supports. InSite’s
calculations in August, 2005 were based on 152.5 gallons per day actual water use per
household by the customers of the Board. The actual historical data from the
wastewater treatment plant indicates an actual contribution to the sewer system of
approximately 360 gallons per day per household including infiltration and inflow.
Based on our revised calculations, the system can handle approximately 600 additional
homes at this time. Growth from 2004 to 2005 was approximately 5%, so the projections
include a conservative 7% growth rate in customer base. These projections indicate that
the treatment plant will be at 90% of its permitted capacity in 2009 to 2010.
Copies of the revised calculations as well as a list of currently approved subdivisions are
attached for your reference.
